Podcast episode 20: Pericarditis

Pericarditis is the swelling of the membrane around the heart.

It has had quite a lot of coverage in the media lately as it has been identified as a possible, although very rare, side-effect of the MRNA Covid vaccines. You are, however, more likely to develop pericarditis as a result of Covid (11 people per 100,000) than as a result of the MRNA vaccine (2.7 people per 100,000).

In this episode, Peter and Stuart discuss a recent case study who presented at Heart HQ with acute pericarditis after a respiratory tract infection. They explain the symptoms of pericarditis, what to look for during diagnostic testing, complications, treatment and prognosis.
